Rapid Realism

A Game-Ready Asset Challenge with Character Creator 4

Project Overview

In a quest to push the boundaries of speed and realism, I embarked on a project with Character Creator 4. The goal was simple: create a game-ready asset in record time, focusing on the creation of realistic clothing. The result? A realistic character created in roughly 30 hours. Check out the breakdown video below.

Process and Challenges

The journey began with small edits to the base female from CC4, complemented by a selection of a natural and realistic animation, one of CC4's best assets. The next step was Marvelous Designer, where I quickly built up the garments before adding more detailed wrinkles in ZBrush. After retopologizing, I moved into Substance Designer, baked out the maps, and started building up the textures. The final step was pulling everything into Marmoset and using the Ray traced rendering to achieve some truly impressive results. The entire process was surprisingly straightforward.

Inspired by Fabio Cacciola's Merc_001 concept (which you can check out here), I used the female base from CC4 as a starting point, making minor tweaks to align it more closely with the concept. To expedite the process, I sourced the hair and boots from CGtrader.
