Digitizing the Iconic Balenciaga Track 2 Sneaker
The Intersection of Fashion and Innovation
In a world where fashion and technology constantly intersect, digital fabrication has become a potent tool for designers and creators. A testament to this is a recent project commissioned by Sheriff Projects, where I had the opportunity to create a digital clone of the Balenciaga Track 2 Sneaker.
Sheriff Projects, a creative tech production house, is no stranger to high standards and innovation. Their extensive services span from Digital Capture, to Post Production, to Fine Art services. They consistently push boundaries to help both established and emerging brands produce content in the Fashion and Luxury industries. When they approached me with the task of creating a digital clone of a high-end fashion item, I knew it was an endeavor that required precision and attention to detail.
The objective was to transform a scanned asset into a shaded one, prepped and ready for animation and real-time viewing. The scanned asset was of a Balenciaga Track 2 Sneaker, a symbol of luxury and style. Given its intricate design and detailed features, the sneaker presented a challenging yet exciting task. It was important to not only retain the shoe's signature aesthetic but also ensure its digital counterpart was functional for the project's purpose.
The shoe laces posed a unique challenge. Unlike other elements of the shoe, the laces had to be built by hand. This process entailed the use of splines, a curve, to create a path for the flat lace model to follow. The laces were shaped to mirror the look and feel of real laces on the Balenciaga Track 2 Sneaker.
Creating a digital clone of the Balenciaga Track 2 Sneaker was a fascinating blend of fashion, technology, and artistry. The project underlined the impact of photogrammetry in the fashion industry, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in design. Through collaboration with Sheriff Projects, we were able to bring a piece of luxury fashion into the digital realm, paving the way for future intersections of technology and style.
